We visited the site on 11th April to discuss Health and Safety issues, as we’ll be working within the quarry but away from the active quarrying area. We also needed to identify safe potential sites to survey using both both conventional and drone-based methods. The weather wasn’t great but we were able to gain an impression of variation in vegetation establishment from relatively sparsely vegetated scalpings to better established communities and in tree planting areas.
We identified some safe sites to survey - adjacent to the access road that cuts diagonally across benching the back of the quarry. We’ll be given further information about the bench restoration work to date - what’s been tried where in terms of restoration methods, soil materials, and sowing and planting materials. This information will help target some of our later survey work, after we’ve refined our drone techniques.
