During our last tour of the gravel pit, we were extremely pleased to discover that stock number one had been dug by Sand Martins at at least three places. We did not observe birds flying in and out of them, so we have more monitoring to do to determine whether they are nesting in this stock.
In stock number two we were even more pleased to discover that at least five holes had been dug, and Sand Martins were flying in and out of at least three of them! Again, we shall have to monitore and determine whether they are breeding, and their future reproductive success.
But for now we are very happy to see Sand Martins flying around these stocks and possibly getting ready to breed in them!
