As I mentioned in a previous post, we have been sampling different areas of the Áridos Sanz Gravel Pit, trying to determine whether the presence of bodies of water promotes the presence of Sand Martins in the area.

We sampled three environmental units: bodies of water – because Sand Martins look for insects there, sand stocks – where they nest, and agricultural fields – because we noticed great numbers of Sand Martins feeding there at the beginning of our study. You can find a map locating our sampling points below.

Though we focused on Sand Martins, here is a list of other bird species we observed at the gravel pit:
