If they hatch, the chicks are just about 14 g heavy. When flying out they have their weight almost tenfold and weigh 110-120 g.
The chicks do not stay in the nest, but explore the surroundings as they get older. They have thicker feet than the adult birds. For the chicks, the flight muscles still have to develop.
The plumage is changing too. The fluffy chicks become teenagers with a juvenile plumage. They have feathers with brown tips and are well distinguishable from the adult birds.
