At the gravel pit Birgelfeld, there were new record highs with 56 breeding pairs (49 so far), the number of fledglings with 91 (previously 50), the number of fledglings per pair with 1.63 (1.0) and the number of 92 ringed chicks (84). Here, nearly a third of the population at the Lower Rhine area is breeding.

In the Lower Rhine population, only the breeding population last year was slightly higher. Otherwise, new records were achieved here. In total, about 275 chicks fledged.

The dry hot summer was ideal for the Common Terns. Now the terns are over the sea on their way to the wintering areas.
